Student Life: mayhem and more
Five years ago a bunch of ambitious Unitec Performing and Screen Arts Graduates took it upon themselves to create their own work.
And so, the Outfit Theatre Company was born. Since then they have carved their own artistic path to prove that they consistently produce dynamic and challenging new theatre works.

The Factory Floor development season is an annual Outfit initiative to support budding writers. This year founding member Colin Garlick presents his first feature length piece Course Related Costs alongside director Peter Coates (also an ensemble member).

A packed theatre provides a great backdrop for an intentionally messy stage set. An all too familiar setting of a student flat, with the usual slouching characters.
From the first beat the energy was high, as we watched three flatmates Pete (Brad Johnson), Monty (Jordan Mooney) and AJ (Tarquinn Kennedy) tease out the flatting difficulties and dramas: one person not pulling their weight, and the nutty repercussions that ensue.
Aside from the shambolic state of their flat (and probably their minds), the students were dabbling and diving into far deeper, darker waters.
As more quirky characters are added to the mayhem, the audience is kept well entertained throughout the ninety minute play. The delivery guys, Randy (Chris Tempest) and Earl (Joel Herbert) proved to be timely scene stealers and were a genius addition to the show.

Hard work and integrity are at the core of The Outfit Theatre Company’s success. This was clearly demonstrated in this witty, polished performance.
